Process Overview
Crash data often carries specific legal and agency requirements that govern how the information may be distributed and used. Agencies need a consistent way to communicate requirements to everyone who accesses the data.
AASHTOWare Safety gives agencies a way to include those requirements and other communication needs directly into the application. Agencies can work with the Customer Success team to configure recurring notifications that inform users of restrictions and other guidance before working with crash data.

For example, some agencies use in-app notifications to inform end users that crash data and analyses in the tools may be protected under 23 U.S.C. § 407. The specific language of the message can be tailored to the agency’s communication needs.

Agencies can communicate these requirements upon every login and in downloadable reports. A pop-up notification presents the information to users upon login and reappears each time the user logs in. This way, agencies can ensure the guidance remains visible to users every time they access the data.
Agencies can also add custom text to the footer of reports generated in AASHTOWare Safety. Including these notices with exported data helps carry the guidance beyond the application and into materials that can be shared with others.
Agencies can establish a consistent communication process for users working with safety data and analyses. Notification language is customizable and should be developed in accordance with legal requirements and agency policies. The language in the message can be updated as requirements or internal policies change, helping agencies ensure that guidance for users remains up to date and relevant.
